I Am

Confusion inside me
And sadly it defines me
Left feeling frustrated
But that's never all
Play the cards that I'm dealt
Never gain ground that I've felt
Left feeling deflated
but that's never all

I don't know what I'm doing
I don't know where I am
I don't know where I'm going
I only know where I've been

Excitement inside me
Opportunities still surprise me
Left feeling elated
But that's never all
Seize the day so they say
But how do I find my own way
Left feeling degraded
But that's never all

I don't know what I'm doing
I don't know where I am
I don't know where I'm going
I only know where I've been

I don't know what I'm doing
I don't know where I am
I don't know where I'm going
I only know where I've been

I only know where I've been

I only know where I've been

If it's not one thing, it's another
Day-by-day I discover
that the weight on my shoulders
only gets heavier as I get older

I don't know what I'm doing
I don't know where I am
I don't know where I'm going
I only know where I've been

I don't know who the fuck I am

It's the same shit on a different day
As I pass this life away
And I want to know where my life will go
But I settle for the mundane

It's the same shit on a different day
As I pass this life away
And I want to know where my life will go
But I settle for the mundane

It's the same shit
It's a different day
As I pass this life away

I don't know what I'm doing
I don't know where I am
I don't know where I'm going
I only know where I've been

I don't know who the fuck I am

Shadows

How did I get here?
Is it darkness that creeps in my bones?
On the edge of that fear
On the edge of everything that I've known

I can see it's the end
of the way things used to be
Breaking down
Dissolving everything inside of me
There's no love in the end
only what you want from me
Giving up
Letting darkness take control of me

And I stand here alone
And all these words
can't bring me home
My mind is filled shadows
Shadows of the soul
These shadows
Shadows of control

Stake your claim on me
It's the dawn of the age of fear
You tell me I'm free
The illusion whispered into my ear

I can see it's the end
of the way things used to be
Breaking down
Dissolving everything inside of me
There's no love in the end
only what you want from me
Giving up
Letting darkness take control of me

And I stand here alone
And all these words
can't bring me home
My mind is filled shadows
Shadows of the soul
These shadows
Shadows of control

The music here was all written by my buddy Larry who was cool enough to let me give a shot at doing some vocals on it. It probably seems nerdy, but the lyrics here are actually influenced by the video game Alan Wake.  I wasn't sure what to write about, and I was in the middle of a replay of Alan Wake: American Nightmare.  I decided to try writing from the point of view of someone falling under the influence of the Taken and what it must be like.  Although, when I was done, I've had people tell me the the things they think the song is about.  It's been insightful in regards to how people think and relate the contents to their own experiences.

Machine

Dug my way out like I wanted
Took 3 years of stress, but I got it
Changed my life, changed myself
It all took a toll on my health
Looking back I have to wonder
What did I do this for
Built a new life, but I don't want it
I'm back where I was before

Is it fear that keeps me here now?
Stagnation haunts my waking dreams
I'm trapped behind this desk now,
a machine behind a machine

Tried to stay away from this
Brok out o fthis life obscene
But is it all I know now?
Is this all I am?  A sight unseen?
So much left to do now
So much left in life yet to see
But I put my job before myself
Fell back into this dull routine

Is it fear that keeps me here now?
Stagnation haunts my waking dreams
I'm trapped behind this desk now,
a machine behind a machine

Am I just a machine behind a machine?

Devil Down

This song was written by my buddy Larry Greer on drums and a friend of his, Ian Murphy on guitar.  The music was absolutely great and he was cool enough to let me attempt vocals on it.  I still need to add bass to the first half of the song, but it seems like it's coming along.

silence is the worst form of cowardice

 enslave and you rape

and the world ignores it again
when will we wake up?
when will we take action?
this happens every time

war on women?
civil rights?
pedophiles?
discrimination?

we'd rather put a stupid rainbow on our facebook pic
than take 5 minutes to seek out the truth

silence is the worst form of cowardice

when it comes to users
you wear the crown
and when you fall it's just
one more devil down

isis is evil in it's purest form
this is the war for which we've been born

and to the apathetic hollywood elites
WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU NOW!?

when it comes to users
you wear the crown
and when you fall it's just
one more devil down

When All is Sorrow (rough mix)

This is not really one of my songs.  My buddy Larry wrote and recorded this and was cool enough to let me toy with vocals on it.  I'm not settled on this yet, but this is a rough hack.

the things i overcome that keep me numb my life wasted on stupid dreams
i spent my life always on the run time to set aside childish things
trapped myself with promises I regret the mistakes i make when i agree
i'm meant to go with the wind on a whim, just unchained and free
i'm trapped by indecision now struggling to be the best i can be
but i'm smothered by expectation to be someone other than me
witness now the change of heart as cold as stone, it cannot bleed
i'm shutting down now to survive
i'm shutting off so i can breathe

time does not feel the same when all is sorrow
 when all is sorrow

do you think you can tame me use me just to change me
i can't save you i'm moving onward
now
i will not be your exit out
because
i can't save you i'm moving onward
i'm not your rewind i'm not your lifeline
i can't save you i'm moving onward
don't pin your hopes on me in the end you'll always see
i can't save you i'm moving onward

can you stand on your own two feet
without me, without love, can you be
the best version of yourself
not defined by someone else
who you are, who you were,
who you'll be
can you be you, without me?
cause i'm not always going to be here
you can't live your life paralyzed in fear
so i'm moving on so you can learn to stand
and when you find yourself I'll come back again
but until that day this is how far I'll go
cause time does not feel the same
when all is sorrow

Salience

After 15 years, I had my life ripped from under me
How could it be? I couldn't see, I planned so fucking carefully
Depression set in, I let it win, but it was temporary
My mesolimbic pathway overflows with dopamine
I was driven! Unstoppable!  I was fucking obsessed!
To climb my way back up, I'd be fucking relentless!
So, started at the bottom, pushed myself past my limits.
Ignored the pain from over strain, gave it all I could give it.

Years passed, life changed and now I find I'm here again
The rat race, a job I hate, my time is not my own again
I've been here before, yet repeat my mistakes?
Did I expect a different outcome? A life I could take?
Insanity.  Expecting different results
I need to break out of my prison of faults.
I'm my own man, now it's time that I live it
I need to take risks and give it all I can give it

You'd think that I'd know by now
That I succeed out of habit
To create a new life for myself
I need to just reach out and grab it

This is the only way that I can repair my fate

I will overcome the expectations of this world

Nice house, two cars, debt, white picket fence
Credit cards, more bills, living just to pay the rent
Friday night, go out, spend more than I take home
When life get tough, the government will pay my loan
That isn't me, I'm not a clone, I can't sit still
I need to live on the move, I also pay my fucking bills
No help, no hands out, leave that for the weak
No suburban mediocrity, leave that for the sheep
I've done it once, and I'll do it again
Break out of this routine and be my own fucking man
If there's one thing I know, it's life isn't fair
And no matter where it takes, you, it'll never be there
I've always done things my own way
That's how I'll always be
It's not that I'm stubborn
It's that man was meant to be free

I will overcome the expectations of this world

Their Web of Lies

Their web of lies
The lies they keep on telling you
Spinning truth
Drowning in prop they keep selling you
Robbing you
Of the hours of your one and only life
Breeding contempt, distrust
Fomenting strife
And what's the price?
The cost of shrugging blame
The cost of the avoiding shame
The cost of their slavers game
The road to hell is paved with good intent
But if you refuse to step up
We'll all default on the rent
We may all be in this together
But you use me like a check so you can spend forever

You don't ask me for permission
You just assume and forcefully take
And when I fight to keep something for myself,
you claim I'm evil for keeping what I make
You want your living off the labors of others
Condescend to us about how we're all brothers
A brother wouldn't hold a gun to my head for wealth
No destroy my property or sacrifice my health
You can't force compliance and pretend it's success
That's how dictators think, a bully at best
You can't drown our children while claiming its fine
Now they're smothered in debt and running out of time
The clock is ticking, the end is near
The world enslaved in poverty and fear
They us blame to divide us, while they cower and hide
And we're destroying ourselves in their web of lies

*recording notes - Music recorded in Pro-Tools.  Guitar was a Schecter Damian 7-string.  Sansamp in Pro-Tools for the distortion.  Zoom 234 for drums, direct line recorded.  EB-0 for bass.  Recorded vocals in Ardour using a Heil PR-20 in my car, on the overlook up the road from Dirt Fish Rally School.

Head Down

When life throws you to the ground
Keep your head down and you'll get through it
When your luck is fading and your chips are down
Keep your head down and you'l get through it
When you're tired of waiting and no answers are found
Keep your head down and you'll get through it
When constant rejection is the only sound
Keep your head down and you'll get through it

'Life's a bitch and then you die'
The clarion call of the over-trivialized
Cynics and hipsters that forever frown
And if you let them, they will drag you down
They live to be miserable, belittle and mock
But in their rantings, don't take much stock
They want the drama cause they love to act
Emotion's more important than logic or fact

Let them make their bad choices and let it
Go, go, go, go
They're always be in need of a helping hand just
Go, go, go, go
Or they'll pull you down with them like a drowning man don't
Go, go, go, go
They need to find their own two legs and stand so
Go, go, go, go

When life throws you to the ground
Keep your head down and you'll get through it
When your luck is fading and your chips are down
Keep your head down and you'l get through it
When you're tired of waiting and no answers are found
Keep your head down and you'll get through it
When constant rejection is the only sound
Keep your head down and you'll get through it

Let them make their bad choices and let it
Go, go, go, go
They're always be in need of a helping hand just
Go, go, go, go
Or they'll pull you down with them like a drowning man don't
Go, go, go, go
They need to find their own two legs and stand so
Go, go, go, go

Breathe

When each day feels like it's worse than the one before
When you're running on empty and everyone wants to take more, more, more
Can we just take a minute to breathe?
To beat them, you have to put your nose to the grindstone and repeat

I'm not giving up
Not giving up
Giving up my dreams

It doesn't matter
What they say
They're just fragile
and so afraid
It makes them lash out
It makes them cruel
But in the end
They're just your tool

When you feel like your life is no longer your own
When every hour of every day is spent for others, even when you're home
Can we just take a minute to breathe?
Learn to take time out for yourself and repeat

I'm not giving up
Not giving up
Giving up my dreams

When pressure builds in your temples it feels like time has slowed
When you feel like one wrong word from someone and you're going to explode
Can we just take a minute to breathe?
Don't waste your time on them, just remember to repeat

I'm not giving up
Not giving up
Giving up my dreams

It doesn't matter
What they say
They're just fragile
and so afraid
It makes them lash out
It makes them cruel
But in the end
They're just your tool

*recording notes - Music recorded in M-Audio version of Pro-Tools.  Drums mapped individually from Zoom 234, drum bank 4, one hit at a time, then the drum beat was created inside Pro-Tools.  Bass was direct line recorded with an EB-0.  Guitar was a Dillon acoustic/electric guitar, using Sansamp distortion in Pro-Tools.  Vocals were recorded in the upper parking lot of Snoqualmie Falls, in my 2009 Ford Focus, using a Heil PR-90 in Ardour through an M-Audio Fast Track.

The Road I've Traveled

And the road I've traveled
Well it keeps me hanging on
And I don't stop for nothing
Just a learning right from wrong
Life will stop for no one
and you will never sleep
Unless we search for answers
Already at our feet, yeah

Doesn't matter what I do
Or where I stay, I'm always
Anxious to keep moving on, moving on
This never-ending unrest burdens me
It's like an hour glass in my soul
driving me forever onward

I see my face in the mirror getting older
Seasons passing as I blink my eyes
And still this restlessness tears at me
And no matter how far I run, I know I can't hide

I gotta go!
My soul screams at me
Am I running from myself?
I don't know
This just can't be
The only life I have

The only thing I know is I just
gotta go, gotta go, gotta go!

I've gotta go!

*Recording details: I used my Dillon acoustic/electric guitar direct line into Pro Tools.  The distortion on the acoustic is the native Pro Tools Sansamp, Rockstar setting.  I used an EB-0 bass direct line into Pro Tools, and the drums are from a kit I created using the 4th kit on my Zoom ...234 drum machine, sampling each piece individual into Pro Tools and laying them that way.  I used a Heil PR-20 for vocals in 2012 for Tom and then again in 2015 for myself when I completed the song using my car as a vocal booth.

Poser

Think you're different, pretend you're bad
Think you're edgy, you're so sad
Anti-corporate, anti-greed
You prop up both with whiney need

Want handouts?
cause you're a poser
Try to stand out
cause you're a poser
you lean left
cause you're a poser
you're not a punk
you fucking poser

Support big unions and their greed
Spit talking points for going green
Hate on people that succeed
You're just a hipster wannabe

Want handouts?
cause you're a poser
Try to stand out
cause you're a poser
you lean left
cause you're a poser
you're not a punk
you fucking poser

You can't speak truth to power
when you're the one that's in power
You tell me you believe in hope
Anarchist?  What a joke

Want handouts?
cause you're a poser
Try to stand out
cause you're a poser
you lean left
cause you're a poser
you're not a punk
you fucking poser

*Recording Details: After buying a cheap Estaban G-10 practice amp, I decided to record all the punk rock songs that weren't attached to my Anti-Social(ist) playlist with the amp.  I used my Heil PR-20 to record the amp in Ardour through my M-Audio Fast Track.  I never even reached 1 on the volume and recorded it fairly quietly.  I'm pretty happy how it turned out.  I wanted a sort of tinnish overdrive for the mid-80's punk sound.  I recorded vocals with my Heil PR-20, using my car as a vocal booth.  I recorded bass through my Multi Track into Ardour.   I redid the drums in Hydrogen, mostly using the standard kit with a few exceptions.

Just Scratching the Surface

Supported and expanded Bush's unconstitutional Patriot Act.  And then had four US citizens killed without judicial process.

Ordered private company, Boeing, to shut down and then fire 1,000 non-union employees.

Was fast and furious to put guns into criminal hands, ending in the murder of US Border Patrol Agent, Brian Terry.

Fired Inspector General Gerald Walpin for discovering his friend, mayor Kevin Johnson, had embezzled government funds.

Gave tax dollars to campaign contributors and lobbyists claiming it was for 'green energy', and rewarded others with high paying federal jobs.

Had armed SWAT agents raid a law-abiding guitar factory, Gibson, because it was owned by a Republican.

Forced banks to give mortgages to people who couldn't afford them, and collected $23,000 in legal fees for himself for doing so.

Ordered military to stand down while Benghazi consulate was under attack, resulting in 4 American deaths that could've been prevented.

We voted for death by hope.

(Just think, that clock was $10 trillion when Obama took office... a number he said was irresponsible and unpatriotic.  What does that make the current number?)

Lost

Why
Would
You

Why would you do the things you do?
When you know it's bad for you?
Refuse to fix youself and mend
The wedge between family and friends
You can run but can't change your past
How long do you think you'll really last?
This is what happens when you mix up love and lust

Lying Liar Who Lies

You turn to me when I say to you
And try to tell you that I'll be true
You left me without a goodbye
Told friends I left you alone to cry
Now all my friends are mad at me
Even though you're the one who left me
It was hard enough when you hurt my pride
But why'd you go and make up lies?

A lying liar who lies
A lying liar who lies
A lying liar who lies
A lying liar who lies

So I moved away, and I moved along
Even though I was the one who was wronged
Found new friends and a new place
My heart was healing, life was great
I picked up, started over again
Then you contacted my new friends
Made up more lies about me
What's your problem?! You left me!

A lying liar who lies
A lying liar who lies
You're a lying liar who lies
A lying liar who lies

The Only Easy Day

It's the tough times (It's the tough lives)
It's the rough times (It's the rough lives)
That make you who you are
Strengthen you inside
It's the hard choices, impossible choices
That define you even when you're lost inside
It's your actions that make you are
Life's about what you can shoulder
Not what's 'fair' or 'right'
It's integrity that drives you onward
Problems are only passing if you keep your goals in sight

Cause the only easy day was yesterday
When the clouds are forming and the skies turn gray
To face the coming storm, you must be brave
Cause the the only easy day was yesterday
The only easy day was yesterday
When the clouds are forming and the skies turn gray
To face the coming storm, you must be brave
Cause the the only easy day was yesterday

Life is hard (so fucking hard)
And getting harder
Because we as people are now broken in every way
That's how they want us
Groveling on our knees
No will left to fight
Just begging for release

The excuses you use to hold yourself back
are all of your own design
To set yourself free, you have to face your fears
It's ok to fail from time to time
Pick yourself up, brush yourself off
That's what sets people apart from sheep
Life has no safety nets, there are no life lines
Just you, your will, your heartbeat

 To fix your life
You have to make a choice
To embrace the struggle
And live with the pain
To no longer sit down
To give the voiceless voice
To do the right thing
And go against the grain

Cause the only easy day was yesterday
When the clouds are forming and the skies turn gray
To face the coming storm, you must be brave
Cause the the only easy day was yesterday
The only easy day was yesterday
When the clouds are forming and the skies turn gray
To face the coming storm, you must be brave
Cause the the only easy day was yesterday

The excuses you use to hold yourself back
are all of your own design
To set yourself free, you have to face your fears
It's ok to fail from time to time
Pick yourself up, brush yourself off
That's what sets people apart from sheep
Life has no safety nets, there are no life lines
Just you, your will, your heartbeat

The only
easy day
was
yesterday
The only
easy day
was
yesterday

Roam

As I make it through each day
Will I stay, will I stay, will I...
Questions linger in this way
Will I stay, will I stay, will I...

What is it in me that just can't seem to find peace and rest?
Why is it I dream of moving and moving
I just can't be content

Am I just a man without a home?
Am I doomed to walk this path forever alone?

I was born roam
I was born roam

Man with no home
Man with no home
Man with no home
Man with no home

I always tell myself I'm free
Will I stay, will I stay, will I...
But if that's true, why do I repeat
Will I stay, will I stay, will I...

What is it in me that just can't seem to find peace and rest?
Why is it I dream of moving and moving
I just can't be content

Am I just a man without a home?
Am I doomed to walk this path forever alone?

I was born roam
I was born roam
 Man with no home
 Man with no home

There's always reasons not to stay
Will I stay, will I stay, will I...
But I can't tell if I'm running away
Will I stay, will I stay, will I...

What is it in me that just can't seem to find peace and rest?
Why is it I dream of moving and moving
I just can't be content

I was born to roam
I was born to roam
Man with no home
I was born to roam

Yesterday

When you woke up today
Did you stop?
Did you take a breath
and then open your eyes and say,
'It's gotta be better,
better than yesterday'
Don't be a victim to your past
and wallow your life away
It's gotta be better
Than yesterday
Yesterday

Defeat is believing in what others say instead of what you feel
Defeat is believing in what others say instead of what you feel
Defeat is believing in what others say instead of what you feel
Defeat is believing in what others say instead of what you feel

When you woke up today
Did you stop?
Did you grab a mirror
and look at yourself and say,
'I'm gonna be better,
better than yesterday.
I won't be a victim to my past
and wallow my life away.
I'm gonna be better
than yesterday.'

Is This America?

Is this America we see when we walk down the street
Families in tent cities because of bankers playing for keeps
4 million unemployed leads to hard life and hard times
In desperation the best person will resort to crime

Is this America we see when we open our eyes
With people screaming at the government
'Stop all these lies'
With crisis after crisis, they use fear to heard us like sheep
If you recognize the truth they say, 'go back to sleep'

We get attacked, they respond with the 'Patriot Act'
But the fact they tracks us takes the world and paints it black
What kind of world do we live in if we can't live free
Addicted to their handouts just like it was smack on the streets
With every resolution called a solution Progressive evolution
rapes the Constitution, this institution breeds dissolution
Sold our freedom for security
Now watch them abuse it
Gave them power in our darkest hour
How can we do this?

Is this America we see when we walk down the street
Families in tent cities because of bankers playing for keeps
4 million unemployed leads to hard life and hard times
In desperation the best person will resort to crime

Is this America we see when we open our eyes
With people screaming at the government
'Stop all these lies'
With crisis after crisis, they use fear to heard us like sheep
If you recognize the truth they say, 'go back to sleep'

Investing in Smith and Wesson in case this recession
turns into a hyper inflated Greater Depression
Their intentions lead one direction
A Brave New World (Order)
Entitlements for every boy and girl (sort of)
Self reliant persons need no longer apply
Even when George Orwell warned us of the eyes in the sky
We didn't catch it, pay attention or even try to save it
A future for our children we forced into enslavement
Is this America we see when we walk down the street
Families in tent cities because of bankers playing for keeps
4 million unemployed leads to hard life and hard times
In desperation the best person will resort to crime

Is this America we see when we open our eyes
With people screaming at the government
'Stop all these lies'
With crisis after crisis, they use fear to heard us like sheep
If you recognize the truth they say, 'go back to sleep'

Is this America?
When 1 in 4 has an STD?
Is this America?
When we get so over taxed we can't succeed?
Is this America?
When they don't need a warrant to break into our homes?
Is this America?
When they try to shut down opposing radio shows?
Is this America?
When they choose for doctors who lives and dies?
Is this America?
When we let the Fed take control of our lives?
Is this America?
Is this America?

Impressionable

Think for youself
Think, think yourself
You can't think for yourself
letting others run your life

You found the truth out for yourself
but now you want some help
to be told how you should feel
instead of doing it yourself

Think for youself
Think, think yourself
You can't think for yourself
letting others run your life

You found the truth out for yourself
but now you want some help
to be told how you should feel
instead of doing it yourself

You found the truth out for yourself
but now you want some help
to be told how you should feel
instead of doing it yourself

*Recording Details: I initially recorded drums, guitars and bass for this back in 2010.  I recorded vocals in April of 2014.  After buying a cheap Estaban G-10 practice amp, I decided to re-record all the punk rock songs that weren't attached to my Anti-Social(ist) playlist with the amp. I kept the original bass direct line recorded in Pro Tools from 2010, but redid the drums in Hydrogen, mostly using the standard kit with a few exceptions.
